Supporting our Thailand Trip

The only way for our team to make a difference in Thailand is with the support of our family and friends.  Following is a copy of the letter that I recently put in the mail to some of our friends and family.

Thank you for your support.

______________________________________________________________

Over the last year or so, I have been reminded over and over about how blessed I am.  During that same time, I have felt God working in my life to reach out to others.  I wasn’t sure how it would all come together, who the “others” would be, or how I would be involved.  I did know that whatever, whoever, or whenever I knew what I was supposed to do – it would take courage.  I don’t know about you, but I am fairly comfortable in my little world.  I don’t like to rock the boat and don’t really want to send everything topsy-turvy.  That is where the courage enters.  When you become willing to do whatever God asks of you – you have to be prepared for your personal world to be knocked upside down!
Last November, I was approached about a trip that was being put together.  This trip is not a vacation, but a chance to go to Bangkok Thailand to work with women and children involved in the sex trade.  This is not a pretty topic, and at first I was stunned – I didn’t think this was what God had in mind.  I know it wasn’t what I had in mind!  As Colin and I prayed and considered the possibilities, many, many puzzle pieces started to fall into place for me.  In late December, we made the decision that I would sign up for the trip.  I am extremely excited and know for a fact that I am supposed to enter this new world.  It will be a stretch and will require courage!  Courage to step out in faith that everything will come together, courage to get on a plane to somewhere I have never been and courage to tell others about this trip and my personal reasons for going!

I would like to tell you a little about the mission trip I will be embarking on through Adventures in Missions and why I am sending you this letter.  Five ladies from my home church, Springbrook Community Church, will be working with two ministries already established in the red light districts of Bangkok, Thailand: Rahab Ministries and NightLight.  Between May 23 and June 2, our team will visit bars in the red light districts where we will meet and talk with Thai women.
Many Thai girls do not get an education past the second grade and are expected to be the breadwinners in their families.  They are either pushed or sold into brothels or to pimps to earn a living, some of them are as young as 14.  The ministries we will be working with help educate these beautiful women and teach them the skills they need to pursue another means of living.  Many of these women believe, in part because of their culture, that they deserve to be in this life.  They do not know that there is a God in heaven who loves them and who has plans for them.  We feel led as a group to reach out to these women and share the love of Christ.

In addition, we are also excited to be able to deliver dresses that have been lovingly made by a group of women, teens and children at our church to little girls in the slum areas of Thailand.
This task is daunting.  Alone, I cannot accomplish it.  I need your encouragement, prayers, and support.  I hope that you will become my partner on this trip through one of the following ways.  First, you can become an encourager, sharing words of blessing and hope with me.

Alternately, you can be a prayer partner by praying for me, our team of 5 women, the amazing ministries with which we will be working, and the women and children to whom we will meet and minister.
Finally, you can support me financially. The cost of the trip is $3,000 per person which includes flights, housing, food, and transportation in Thailand.  A gift of any size would not only be greatly appreciated but also very helpful.

God has done such an incredible work in my life.  I know He is not finished.  I am excited to share the grace, love and mercy He has given to me with the women of Thailand.  I am humbled to know that I will be forever changed and receive so many more blessings from the women and children I meet than by what I am able to give to them.  God is good all the time.  All the time, He is good!
